The Criminal Court Department performs many functions in the Clerk's office. The primary functions are:
Collection Court - Collection Court was established to assist the courts in collecting unpaid fines and monies due to the court.
Felony - Felonies are crimes of a graver or more serious nature than those designated as misdemeanors. Under many state statutes, these are offenses punishable by death or imprisonment for a term exceeding one year.
Juvenile - Juvenile is a court having special jurisdiction, of a paternal nature, over delinquent, dependent and neglected children. The Juvenile division works closely with the Department of Children and Family Services, the Judiciary, State Attorney's and law enforcement agencies in carrying out its duties. Juvenile records are maintained as confidential under Florida Law.
Misdemeanor - Misdemeanors are offenses lower than felonies and generally those punishable by fine, penalty, forfeiture or imprisonment otherwise than in penitentiary.
Traffic - Traffic Infractions are violations of a statute for which the only sentence authorized is a fine and which violation is expressly designated as an infraction. Criminal Violations are criminal acts committed while operating a motor vehicle e.g vehicular manslaughter, vehicular assault or vehicular homicide.
